Our proposed idea: using a chemical which bonds with ink and also adsorbs oxygen and repels water.
When this is introduced into the production of paper, it would be a protective layer on the outside. This has the same idea as Aluminium adn how it prevents rusting, by producing a layer of aluminium oxide to prevent oxygen from getting into the aluminium.
Our chemical forms a protective layer on the outside and adsorbs the oxygen to prevent yellowing, and also bonds with ink. The protection also repels water, protecting the paper from all forms of contact, and is bio-degradable and also burns. The reason is to use less land in landfill when disposing of paper. The good side of this is that the ink can be washed off using water.

Our material chosen is Paper, one of the most commonly used material on earth, have a history dated back till early china. The problems with paper are : they tear easily when soaked, they cannot be written easily on using gel pen on the coating.
Heres our Biology book, having a small coating which dosent repel water that much and allows some gel pen using. The purpose is to prevent the paper to yellow.

Heres the section i am going to use to show what i mean.

Added water onto the paper to show it adsorbs and is going to be easily torn.

The drop of water due to the small layer of coating.

Wipe off the excess.

A small mark is left behind. This is less than the normal non-coated paper as the coating somehow prevents the water from getting adsorbed. It also prevents oxygen from being adsorbed by the paper to turn yellow. This is due to Lignin. Lignin is in trees and turns yellow over time when exposed to oxygen.

This is another problem.

When using gel pen on the coating, it dosent get adsorbed as quickly and results in this.
Smudging.
